My dad lost his legs in an accident.
A story inspired by real events; The names of the characters have been deliberately changed.
Saturday, May 9, 2015 is a gloomy day for my whole family.
It’s 23 hours 35 minutes; while we were all waiting for Dad’s return as Mom received a heartbreaking call from the fire brigade: “Hello ma’am, your husband has just had a serious traffic accident. We took him to the CNHU, come quickly.”
Even before she had time to hang up the call, Mum entrusted me with my younger sister and jumped on the first motorcycle taxi to the CNHU.
I was 14 and my younger sister was 7.
I later realized that Dad was coming home from a hard day’s work when he was picked up by a vehicle travelling at high speed in the opposite direction. Both of my dad’s legs were crushed, and his motorcycle unrecoverable.
The driver fled by abandoning the vehicle. His insurance was not up to date.
The witnesses, after robbing my father of his belongings (mobile phone and money) alerted the firefighters who drove the accident to the CNHU …
Dad’s lost enough blood. But he had time to make contact with his wife before passing out.He was in shock.
He was immediately transfused and taken to the operating theatre.
Fortunately, there was blood available that day because Dad received a total of 7 pockets of blood A-
Dad no longer has his legs.He is no longer able to practice his job as a motorcycle taxi driver; besides, he no longer had a motorcycle.
Mom being a housewife, I was forced to give up classes while waiting to engage in income-generating activities (mason help, car-motor service, etc.). In doing so I help my mother by contributing to the family’s expenses and ensuring my sister’s schooling.
It is true that sometimes we even have trouble eating once a day but until then we hold and I have confidence in the future.
Nature has decided that I bear the burden of head of the household early; I accept it with smile and determination.
Happy birthday to you, Dad.
Happy birthday to all the disabled dads in the world.
Happy birthday to all the dads who volunteer blood.
I love you Dad and I will fight with all my strength.
